Privacy Policy
Fillz helps you find the cheapest fuel and EV charging near you. We keep data collection to a minimum. This page explains what we process, why, and what you can do about it.
What this policy covers
This policy covers the Fillz website at fillz.app and the Fillz apps for iOS and Android. All three are built from the same code and process data in the same way.
Who is responsible for your data
The data controller is Cabine Comunicação Empresarial, Unipessoal, Lda., tax number PT 506504999, with registered office at Rua Manuel Felisberto Marques Oliveira Júnior 117, 4470-199 Maia, Portugal. You can reach us at hello@fillz.app for anything in this policy.
Data kept on your device
Your favourites, fill-up litres, average consumption, brand discounts, language and colour settings are stored only on your device (browser local storage). They never leave your device and are not sent to us.
Your location
Fillz only works if it knows roughly where you are, so location is central to the service. When you tap “Detect”, your device asks for permission and shares your coordinates so we can find stations near you. We use them to run that search and do not store them linked to your identity. They are also sent to the mapping and geocoding services listed below, to draw the map and work out your country. You can refuse permission or pick a location manually instead, and the rest of the app still works.
Contact form and price reports
If you send us a message, we store the message, your optional email (so we can reply) and your IP address (to prevent spam). If you report a price or upload a photo of a receipt, pump or price board, we store that report, the station it refers to and the time, so other drivers can see it and so we can detect abuse. Please do not include personal information in photos.
Services we use
To work, Fillz calls these third parties, which receive your IP address and approximate location in order to serve their content: OpenStreetMap and our map tile provider (maps and nearby amenities), BigDataCloud (working out your country from coordinates), and the official national price sources listed in the app credits. With your consent we also load Google Analytics 4 (audience measurement), Contentsquare (anonymised session analytics, web only) and Google AdSense (advertising). If you decline in the cookie banner, none of those three is loaded.
Advertising and cookies
We show ads on the Fillz website through Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and other sites on the internet. In the EU, the UK and Switzerland we ask for your consent before any advertising cookie is set, and you can withdraw it at any time by clearing the site data in your browser. You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings at adssettings.google.com, and out of third-party vendor cookies at aboutads.info. The Fillz iOS and Android apps do not load AdSense. If you buy the ad-free option, no ads and no advertising cookies are loaded at all.
Our legal basis
Under the GDPR we rely on: your consent (Article 6(1)(a)) for location, analytics and advertising cookies; the performance of a contract (Article 6(1)(b)) to provide the ad-free purchase you bought; and our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f)) in keeping the service secure and free of spam and fake price reports. Where we rely on consent, refusing costs you nothing but the feature concerned, and you may withdraw it at any time.
Transfers outside the EEA
Some of the services above are provided by companies based in the United States, in particular Google (Analytics and AdSense) and Contentsquare. When those services are loaded, your data may be transferred outside the European Economic Area. Those transfers rely on the European Commission's adequacy decision for the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, or on Standard Contractual Clauses where the provider is not certified under it.
How long we keep data
Fuel price history is kept for up to 16 days. Contact messages are kept only as long as needed to deal with your request and are then deleted. Community price reports and their photos are kept while they remain useful to other drivers. Data stored on your device stays there until you clear it.
Your choices and rights
You can clear all on-device data at any time from your browser's site settings, or by uninstalling the app. Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, erase and port your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting processing already carried out. To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@fillz.app. We reply within one month.
Complaints
If you think we have handled your data badly, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority. Ours is the Portuguese data protection authority, Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados (CNPD), at cnpd.pt. You may also complain to the authority in the EU country where you live.
Changes and languages
If we change this policy we update the date at the top and, for significant changes, tell you in the app. This policy is available in 22 languages for your convenience; in case of any discrepancy, the English version prevails.
